M.A.D.R.I.D.28045 ARTE EN EL ESPACIO URBANO

Using information about different social, demographic and economic aspects plus a visual documentation of the district, the artists will develop their projects, integrating their artistic practice into the daily life of the Arganzuela district. The new real state structure of the neighbourhood, the urban workers, the construction site of what is becoming the bypass M-30, the discussion on the ideal landscape, the neighbours’ associations, the children playing in the

streets, the use we make of our leisure time and, finally, Legazpi as a junction point that connects the south of Madrid to the rest of the city, are just some of the topics the artists will choose as an inspiration for their interventions.
The artists’ works will focus on the visual elements that make up the specific iconic landscape of Madrid. This first reflection on the visual identity of the city will be a starting point to delve deeper into other social, political, economical, communicative and aesthetic aspects that may determine life in
Madrid in general and particularly in the district of Arganzuela.
As working materials and strategies, the artists will basically employ ephemeral features in order to highlight the processual character of the interventions and to respect the public space where the interventions will take place. Their use and fabrication may recall industrial mass production, establishing a connection with Matadero’s past as an industrial site, or refer to manufacturing processes.
